Wine Country Model Expo – Mid-December Update

As we head into the holidays, we wanted to share a little more about what makes the Wine Country Model Expo on April 11, 2026 a different kind of modelling event.

A central feature of the Expo is our use of exhibition-style model displays. Instead of placing individual models on scattered contest tables, each modeller will present all of their work together in one place on the display tables, with a name plaque that identifies them — generating opportunities for meaningful conversation, learning, and genuine connection. This format encourages people to explore the techniques behind the builds and to talk directly with the creator throughout the day. It’s a relaxed, community-oriented environment that shifts the focus toward engagement and inspiration.

This approach isn’t as common in the U.S., but when used, it has consistently improved the experience for both attendees and modellers. It makes it easier to share techniques, compare approaches, build friendships, and appreciate each modeller’s journey as a whole rather than as a collection of isolated entries.

We’re also excited to share that the Expo will include four invited speakers, each presenting on a different area of the hobby:

  • Grant Mayberry (Plastic Posse Podcast) — figure painting
  • Brett Prusso (Hammerhead Models) — Stop Being Afraid of Scratchbuilding
  • Carl Molesworth — WWII aviation history
  • Martin Drayton (Emdee Models) — diorama composition

We’ll be highlighting each speaker individually in the new year.

More updates coming soon. For now, we wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season — and we look forward to welcoming you to the Wine Country Model Expo in 2026.
